understanding & awareness
I was reading over my last two posts and decided I wanted to post a follow-up to my story. I wanted to share our story for a couple of different reasons. Number one, I knew there were some of you that knew we were adopting, but didn't know what was going on behind the scenes with it--the why's, etc. Not that I felt obligated to share, but I wanted to. I'm not embarrassed to tell people our story, but I think sometimes people are embarrassed to ask. So, I shared. Another reason I wanted to share is to help my friends and family, and others who may read this blog, gain an awareness of infertility. 1 in 6 couples in the United States will experience infertility, but it's not something we really think about. At least, it wasn't something I ever considered would be an issue, until I was in the middle of it. I want people to have some knowledge, even it's only a little, of the effects of infertility on those who experience it. I think the more people are made aware, the less stupid comments will be made. People mean well, but even well-meaning people can be completely tactless. I also want anyone else out there who may be going through infertility or adoption to know they aren't alone and that there are others who have experienced similar situations. I felt pretty alone when our journey started and even if I can help one person, then I will be happy.

You will be an excellent advocate for adoption and for broadening understanding and awareness!
ReplyDeleteHello, Ashley! I found you through Jacque's blog. What a great way this is to reconnect with old friends. I am so in love with the internet. Its been a long time!!
ReplyDeleteI am excited to view your blog more. I am intrigued by your experience. I can't imagine the types of questions people ask. We were able to have a child, but have been bombared with "when will you have another"...its amazing how people feel free to ask whatever comes to mind. Anyway, I look forward to reading your post about your story (below) and can't wait to see Lincoln. What a cute name.
Feel free to stop by my blog.
